2. Request to approve the proposal, NE_temp601, “Postharvest Biology of Fruit” 10-2003 to 2008. Submitted by R. Seem (NYG).

   Action:Recommends approval with the stipulation that interdependency be addressed by the technical committee in this proposal.

3. Request to approve the proposal, NE_temp744, “Conservation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources” 10-2003 to 2008. Submitted by J. Hunter (NYG).

   Action:Recommends approval with the stipulation that objective 5 be further elaborated to demonstrate how this could be accomplished regionally and nationally. MAC also recommends keeping the old number, NE9, as requested by the technical committee.

7. Request for Regional Off-the-Top Funding for FY2003-2004:
   • NE-9 - Recommends approval at last year's level of $145,000
   • NE-59 - Recommends approval at last year's level of $40,788

8. MAC Membership
   Two positions need replacement. MAC decided to increase the number of members to more than 3, one of whom will have an extension appointment. The candidates are being approached to confirm their willingness and availability to serve.

9. Appointment of MAC-member for the National Advisory Committee for the NRSPs
   This will be decided after the new members have been appointed.

    • NE-1012,"Sustaining Local Food Systems in a Globalizing Environment: Forces, Responses, Impacts", ends 9/2007

      Recommends Max Pfeffer (NYC) for all three projects.

12. NIMSS Update
    Significant accomplishments are:
    • A budget of $30,000 has been approved by ESCOP for maintenance and upgrade in the current year.
    • Extension directors are now given the same access and authorization as AES directors. They can approve their extension PI's participation in NIMSS.
    • Extension and ARS directors are now included in the NIMSS listserve to receive all notifications that are generated from NIMSS.
    • Separate forms for SAES-422 as annual and termination reports are now available in NIMSS.

13. Other business

    To make the reporting period uniform, MAC proposes that the period covered by Annual Reports should cover the period between meetings. The deadline will remain as within 60 days after the technical committee's annual meeting.

    Publications reported in the Annual Report will be required to inlcude the following. Other types of publications can be included at the discretion of the technical committee.
